The beautiful model and art director, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, was featured last year on a popular blog called Tales of Endearment, and like the protagonists in Rear Window, fashion afficianados around the world participated in a voyeuristic peek into her closet which houses an impressive and impeccably organized collection of vintage fashion. The blog chronicles the fashionable life of its founder, Natalie Joos, a New York-based casting director admired globally online for her personal style. She has a knack for picking the right face and has cast models in editorials for V Magazine, Purple, and Vogue Germany, in advertising campaigns such as Helmut Lang, Hugo Boss, and Rocawear, and in runway shows including Costello Tagliapietra and Cynthia Rowley. She writes for fashion magazines and of course blogs, but that is on the side. Just like the curious and mesmerized voyeurs in Rear Window, we will keep watching as long as she does....

Lobster Spaghetti With Fresh Tomatoes

Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients
½ cup fruity extra virgin olive oil

2 large cloves garlic, sliced thin

2 ½ pounds ripe tomatoes, peeled and very finely chopped

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

4 one-pound lobsters, cooked and shelled, or ¾ pound cooked lobster meat

3 tablespoons finely slivered fresh basil, plus sprigs for garnish
1 pound spaghetti alla chitarra or spaghettini

Red chili flakes

Directions

1. Heat 3 tablespoons oil in a 5 quart sauté pan or a wide saucepan. Add garlic, cook over low heat until it softens, then add tomatoes. Bring to a simmer and cook 3 minutes over medium heat. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Remove from heat.
2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil for spaghetti.
3. Dice lobster meat. Place 1 tablespoon oil in a small saucepan over low heat. Add lobster and cook until just warmed through. Fold in half of the basil. Cover and set aside.
4. When water boils, add pasta and cook until barely al dente. Drain and place in pan with tomatoes. Stir in remaining oil. Cook, stirring gently over low heat, about 5 minutes, until pasta and tomatoes are warmed and well incorporated. Season to taste with salt and pepper; fold in remaining basil.
5. Transfer to 6 shallow soup plates. Top each portion with lobster, garnish with basil sprigs and serve, with red chili flakes on the side.

When asked about her style influences, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld replied, "Now that I am a bit older, I am also inspired by Romy Schneider for a more grown up look. She was pure elegance and sensuality. Have you seen the movie La Piscine (Swimming Pool), with her and Alain Delon? If not, see it and you will get what I am trying to explain!" Made in 1969 by Jacques Deray, the tension of La Piscine unfolds on the grounds of a villa just outside of St. Tropez during a hot August holiday. The film itself is a bizarre play on love triangles with the swimming pool providing the setting for both intense pleasure and enormous destruction though I do not want to spoil the ending for you. The soundtrack for La Piscine was composed by Michel Legrand and perfectly accompanies the film's erotic conflict. Romy Schneider exudes chic sensual confidence throughout the film, I can see why she inspires Julia; the dance at the party by Jane Birkin is also worth seeing.

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld is a stunner whose glow seems to emanate from within. It is only natural to wonder what could be in her beauty arsenal that imparts such incandescence. (I still don’t understand why under the bottom lip is such a crucial area for highlighter.) I peered into the mirror. Okay, so where is my glow? I’m supposed to glow like Julia. Quite impressive, I say, because that is the perfect example of the power of marketing in the cosmetics industry. And then the realization came, the reality struck home. Julia is 30 years old.
