Carine Roitfeld: Fashion Statements

Mon Dieu, how gorgeous is Carine Roitfeld in this photo! Stunning, breathtaking, the epitome in chic, they do not make superlatives superlative enough to describe her. Her eyes, her hair, her figure, her clothes so perfect that they seem to fade into the background but none of this is by chance, it is by design — her design. Carine Roitfeld's masterpiece as a stylist is herself. Here she divulges that she has "tampered with" this elegant black satin dress by John Galliano so that it looks "deconstructed." She has shaped the garment to flatter her shape best, as she does with her hair, her makeup, her accessories — La Roitfeld is a testament to her talent.

Oh yes, the details... This editorial titled "Fashion Statements" appeared in Allure in November 1995 and was photographed by Mario Testino. Julien d'Y's styled Carine's hair for the shoot. With the Galliano dress she is wearing a vintage Rolex watch that the article says is a gift from "her husband" and a python clutch, so simple, so perfect, so Carine.

Giovanna Battaglia's Fall Shopping Guide

Ready or not, autumn is just around the corner — Giovanna Battaglia predicts the trends to follow for fall fashion. Style.com selected Gio and 22 other influential stylists to share their shopping lists for the next season and the selections are right on. For her list of must have items, Giovanna chose a vest by Giambattista Valli in Mongolian fur and patchwork fox, a Givenchy clutch and gloves in red leather embroidered with sequins and crystals, and the sheer silk polka dot dress by Dolce & Gabbana that Carine Roitfeld has been spotted wearing. Note that the divine Anna Dello Russo is also among the stylists picked to voice their favorites for fall.

Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld In H Magazine

Berto Martínez created this masterful portrait of Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld for a recent issue of H Magazine. I think Martínez has an absolutely gorgeous style of illustration, he shows a knack for attending to detail while keeping it fluid. Apparently there is an article in the magazine that features Vlad as well titled "Flow," please consider sharing with us if you have the good fortune to possess a copy of it. What is your opinion of this image of Vladimir, evocative or no?

Like Mother, Like Daughter: Take 2

It is hard to believe that I have drawn a parallel between the outfits of mother and daughter duo Carine Roitfeld and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld only once before on the site but so it is. In the post Like Mother, Like Daughter, Carine and Julia were both photographed wearing a gorgeous top designed by Christopher Kane and each has styled the garment in her own likeness.

This reference is a bit different in that the two women are not wearing the exact same piece here, they just strongly resemble one another — legs encased in black leather, top reminiscent of a wild animal, hair tousled seductively. Carine is wearing boots, dress, and jacket by Martin Margiela; I can only identify Julia's Miu Miu bag. Let me know if you know who she is wearing... What do you think, can you see a family resemblance here?

Roitfelds On Best Dressed List

It is official — Vanity Fair has just announced their International Best Dressed List for 2010 and Julia and Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld are ranked among the stylish inductees. Visit Vanity Fair for a slide show featuring the entire list of the best of the Best Dressed. (Heh, just noticed the typo in Vladimir's name in the heading! I would be happy to employ my editorial skills on your behalf, Condé Nast... just say the word...)
