"Richard Hambleton—New York" Opening

Last night was the opening for Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld's latest show, "Richard Hambleton—New York" which is a huge success—Hambleton's Pop Expressionist works sold out within a few hours, earning more than a million dollars. Looks like Vladi is blessed with that golden Roitfeld touch! Though we must certainly credit partners Andy Valmorbida and Giorgio Armani for their influence.

Hambleton himeslf made an unusual appearance as the guest of honor; others attending the opening included the family, Christian Restoin, Carine Roitfeld, and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Giovanna Battaglia, Josh Hartnett, Alicia Keys, Bar Refaeli, Hilary Rhoda, Mary J. Blige, Ali Wise, Ally Hilfiger, Devon Aoki, Fabiola Beracasa, Hope Atherton, and Stavros Niarchos. Since both Magnus Berger and Lily Donaldson were there, I guess it's safe to say that the Restoin-Roitfelds like to stay friendly with their exes. That's such a nice quality. The party moved on to favorite spot Indochine and everyone danced late into the night. For Carine this meant on a table with Tom Pecheux and Joseph Altuzarra, ooo la la ! When fans hoisted Vladimir onto their shoulders, Carine kidded, “He gets that from me." See the photos of the afterparty.

Carine Roitfeld shakes her boom boom at the Purple Magazine Fashion Week party at The Boom Boom Room in New York. I absolutely love this woman.

New York Fashion Week Front Row

What an amazing few days to be in New York City. First, Fashion Celebration Night, aka shopping with Vogue editors at fabulous parties in store late night complete with celebrity bartenders and DJs such as... Alexa Chung! Je l'adore. So begins New York Fashion Week and look at the gorgeous outfits that Carine and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and Giovanna Battaglia have styled for the front row. Carine's hair color is perfect, a rich, flattering shade and I like the note of casual sophistication she hits with her "preppy look." Julia has nailed the sexy rock chic thing yet as usual looking oh so natural. Gio's hands with primary colored nails and bracelets are just the touch to break the monochromatic elegance of her outfit. And check out Genevieve Jones' groovy glasses...

With three more fashion capitals left to visit this season, couldn't we do Fashion Celebration Night for every Fashion Week? Same body of beautiful people gathered in similar gorgeous fashion locations... Paris, Milan, London, let's imagine the shopping possibilities... Highlighting the heady Fashion Week events were the dinner and party around Vladimir's latest collaboration, "Richard Hambleton—New York".

Battaglia And Roitfeld At Hambleton Dinner

Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld started New York Fashion Week with a sumptuous supper in honor of artist Richard Hambleton at Armani Ristorante on Fifth Avenue. Vladimir hosted the supper in conjunction with Andy Valmorbida to celebrate the exhibit the duo are curating, "Richard Hambleton—New York" which opens tomorrow at 560 Washington Street, Door 37E. Guests included Hambleton (which is rare), Giovanna Battaglia (looking totally killer above), Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Anouck Lepere, Dasha Zhukova, Margherita Missoni, Bruce Willis, Patrick Demarchelier, Andres Santo Domingo, PC Valmorbida, Devon Aoki, Kerry Washington, Stavros Niarchos, Genevieve Jones, Cécile Winckler, Poppy Delevigne, Fabiola Beracasa, Nellee Hopper, Zani Gugelmann, and Olympia Scarry.

Vogue Paris Translation: Editorial, September 2009

Here is Carine Roitfeld's editorial for the September 2009 issue of Vogue Paris in French and in English (albeit my powers of translation leave a bit to be desired). Also forgive me for accidentally cutting off the top of the image when scanning but I simply have not the time to retouch it. Curiously, Farrah Fawcett appears in the montage of photos but not the text...

They are named Angela Merkel, Toni Morrison, Aung San Suu Kyi, Lydia Cacho Ribeiro or Natalia Estemirova, the Russian journalist and human rights activist found assassinated at Chechnya at the time we completed this issue. Intellectuals, presidents, and heads of democracies, opposing dictatorships in power, directors of corporations, researchers, great reporters, they make their lives a race against time to denounce injustice, oppression, breaches of liberty, to defend the weak and to give the world a human face. These women are heroines, specimens of courage, giving their lives to others. They are named Liza Minnelli, Gloria Vanderbilt, Bianca Jagger or Debbie Harry. Voice fell from heaven, looking beautiful, iron will and incredible talent to burn the wings, these specimens are quite rare: objects of desire, of admiration, and of inspiration. They could end up in a film or novel. Heroines also in the sense that they give their all, transcend the ordinary and illustrate the extraordinary. Portraits, interviews, staged fashion… This Vogue of re-entry honors and celebrates the extraordinary women, the single souls with universal size.
