The Roitfelds At Victoria's Secret Fashion Show

Merde, what is going on with Carine Roitfeld? I have kept my opinion to myself on many a topic but the thing around her neck ices this cake for me. Et les cheveux ?? If this is a midlife crisis, this is wonderful in terms of numbers but for fashion it spells disaster. If this catches on and I have to watch a bunch of fat girls parading around as futuristic bull fighting superheroines, I'm going to hurl. There, I've said it. Go ahead and label me fatist and swear never to read my words again but sincerely—do you? Further, we are NOT going back to big hair, I flatly refuse.

Let's not allow this to spoil the fact that Julia looks stunning in Christoper Kane for Topshop. Oh why oh why did I not order that dress the day the collection was released?! Julia is simply radiant, I guess a few weeks in London were restorative. Though she does have that superhero stance...thank the stars she is not wearing a cape.

Pantless Roitfeld Upsets Fashion Universe

I am still undecided on Carine Roitfeld's lace outfit. Grazia, however, has decided and in part this prompted them to ask, "Is this the worst month in fashion ever?" They come up with some really funny answers to their own question. I must say that whatever your opinion of Carine's look, at least it's not Leighton Meester's outfit. I just keep shaking my head and saying, "Oh no you didn't." Then they provided the perfect counterpoint to this hot mess: elegantly dressed Courtney Love. I cannot do justice to Grazia's witty words accompanying the photos of this month's fashion experiments, please just go read it for yourself.

The Roitfelds At MOCA 30th Anniversary Party

On Saturday the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles celebrated its 30th anniversary and of course Carine Roitfeld and Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld were among the 1,000 eclectic guests present for the special night. Note that the dress Carine is wearing here is of her own design; Vladimir looks very handsome wearing Tom Ford. The evening's unique entertainment was produced by Francesco Vezzoli and featured a world premiere by Lady Gaga, the Bolshoi Ballet, and costumes and props designed by Damien Hirst, Frank Gehry, Baz Luhrmann, Catherine Martin, and Miuccia Prada. The guests included Kyle Maclachlan, Hedi Slimane, David Hockney, Margherita Missoni, Takashi Murakami, Gore Vidal, Chloe Sevigny, KD Lang, Gavin Rossdale, Kate and Laura Mulleavy, James Franco, Pierce Brosnan, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Ridley Scott, Kate Bosworth, John Legend, Eva Mendes, and John Baldessari.

The Roitfelds At Prism Gallery Opening

After Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld's recent show presenting Nicolas Pol, he and his mother Carine traveled west to attend the opening of the latest venture of his friend (and client) PC Valmorbida: the Prism Gallery in Los Angeles. The debut exhibit is titled "Mind the Gap" and kicks off the opening of this new art space on Sunset Strip pioneered by Australian "It boy" Valmorbida. Regarding his vision for the new gallery, Valmorbida says, “We are trying to close the gap between blue chip art and street art and make it accessible to everyone.” The street artists featured are Philip Frost and Barry McGee and the show is curated by PM Tenore, who founded RVCA. DJ Nick Cohen played to the arty crowd which included Anthony Kiedis, Margherita Missoni, Brody Jenner, Elizabeth Richards, Brandon Davis, and Stavros Niarchos. "Mind the Gap" runs through 20 February 2010 so be sure to check it out if you are in Los Angeles.

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld In Grazia

New in the Roitfeld photo gallery: an interview with Julia Restoin-Roitfeld by Grazia, among the photos was this sweet one of her with her mom that I hadn't seen before. Taken at a fashion show in 1993, Julia was 13 and Carine was 39 at the time. Notice that Julia is wearing a cool black tshirt that says "New York" in white letters, even then she was interested in the city that she now calls home. In the article she admits to a bit of fashion rebellion around this period in her life, wearing Doc Martens and wanting a piercing (which Carine condoned as long as she could go along), but Julia felt that the freedom of New York really allowed her to discover her own style: "I found it easier to build my own identity [in New York]. In Paris, they judge you more. It's hard to be bold in Paris and try your own thing."
