Me & The Roitfelds

They may not have included me in this gorgeous photograph but I am mentioned along with "the perfect social totems" Julia and Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld as featured in the Fashion Week edition of New York Magazine.

Indeed, there’s an entire website slavishly devoted to tracking the family; it’s called I Want To Be A Roitfeld and is run by a Carine-possessed woman who goes by the pseudonym Kellina de Boer (though her phone number, and accent, are registered in Norwell, Massachusetts). Early on, one commenter, who Kellina is convinced is Julia, wrote, “hey girl writing on my family… you are a freak! spend your time on something more constructive!” Now, the blogger says, “if I write something that’s not true, she lets me know.” Julia, for her part, denies ever commenting on her site. “It’s flattering, but it’s scary at the same time."*

—Carl Swanson, "Les Enfants Are All Right"

Note that I would fit in with my coloring.

*It's equally scary that I never actually gave any telephone number to Carl Swanson. For the record, my phone, my accent, and I do not reside in Norwell, Massachusetts.

Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld At Home

The description was published originally in Portuguese so I am not entirely certain, but I believe that this photograph of Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld was taken in his Upper East Side apartment. It says that his luxurious home reflects his passion for the arts, congregating incredible pieces displayed in uncommon locations that turn up in temporary galleries. A few of the highlights include paintings by Nicolas Pol and Richard Hambleton — two artists Vladimir has curated — as well as the work of one of his favorite photographers, Raphael Mazzucco. I'd love to know who created the art in the background above, the eyes are haunting me. Vladimir has lived independently since he was 17 and apparently has firm tastes: he allows neither girlfriend Giovanna Battaglia nor his mother to style his space, the décor is his alone. For added panache, the building was formerly occupied by Al Pacino.

[Editor's note: Thank you to b for confirming that the photograph seen in the background above is by Raphael Mazzucco. Thanks also to Vernard for pointing out that there are actually two works of art behind Vladimir, a photograph on the left and a painting on the right; both are by Mazzucco and can be seen in his Collected Works.]

Giovanna Battaglia: Va-Va-Vroom

Giovanna Battaglia appeared in an editorial titled "Find Your Shape" in the September 2006 issue of Vogue. She was subject #3 for the article, "the shrink fit," and she discusses her fervor for microminis and men that can handle it. Clearly, Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld does not have a problem with the length of Gio's skirts. She candidly admits being a fashion addict, hitting rock bottom when she had nothing but jeweled sandals for daywear and backpacking through Thailand for a month to detox from the lifestyle. Oh yes, and her mother thinks that she dresses like a cabaret worker—perfetto!

Roitfeld And Battaglia At Missoni Show

Last night the Missoni family showcased their Autumn/Winter 2010 menswear collection at a cocktail party in their showroom as part of Milan Fashion Week. Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld and Giovanna Battaglia, pictured above with Margherita Missoni, were in attendance; other party guests included Angela Missoni, Rosita Missoni, Teresa Missoni, Eugenie Niarchos, Chris Brown, Micol Sabbadini, and Suzy Menkes. The Missonis do craft beautiful knits and these models wear them well.
