Carine Roitfeld On Alexander McQueen

Carine Roitfeld pays homage to the brilliant designer on the Vogue Paris site and her tribute is quite touching. Below is the translation from French to English of Carine's statement.

Alexander McQueen was not only a visionary and diehard creator but also an outstanding showman. His knowledge of the art of the cut was unequalled. The McQueen boutique is one of the few that I rush to each season. His basics were my basics. I interpret his gesture as his ultimate freedom far from the demons that seemed to haunt him forever.

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld At AmfAR

Despite blizzard conditions in New York City, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and other stars braved the cold to celebrate the amfAR Annual New York Gala. Julia is wearing Richard Nicoll pictured above with Yves Carcelle, CEO of Louis Vuitton, who was honored last night. Among the notable guests were Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld, Giovanna Battaglia, Margherita Missoni, Heidi Klum, Stanley Tucci, Cynthia Nixon, Karolina Kurkova, Maggie Rizer, Vanessa Redgrave, Chloe Sevigny, Zoe Saldana, Meryl Streep, and Julia Stiles. Lady Gaga provided the entertainment for the evening while wearing white body paint, a white bikini, and pearls with no string.

Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld At Home

The description was published originally in Portuguese so I am not entirely certain, but I believe that this photograph of Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld was taken in his Upper East Side apartment. It says that his luxurious home reflects his passion for the arts, congregating incredible pieces displayed in uncommon locations that turn up in temporary galleries. A few of the highlights include paintings by Nicolas Pol and Richard Hambleton — two artists Vladimir has curated — as well as the work of one of his favorite photographers, Raphael Mazzucco. I'd love to know who created the art in the background above, the eyes are haunting me. Vladimir has lived independently since he was 17 and apparently has firm tastes: he allows neither girlfriend Giovanna Battaglia nor his mother to style his space, the décor is his alone. For added panache, the building was formerly occupied by Al Pacino.

[Editor's note: Thank you to b for confirming that the photograph seen in the background above is by Raphael Mazzucco. Thanks also to Vernard for pointing out that there are actually two works of art behind Vladimir, a photograph on the left and a painting on the right; both are by Mazzucco and can be seen in his Collected Works.]

La Roitfeld Top

Here is the perfect way to pay respect to everyone's favorite editor: La Roitfeld Top. This sweet find is a black crew neck tshirt with sheer sleeves; on the front Vogue Paris editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld's silhouette is screenprinted in French words in white making it quite possibly the coolest tshirt ever.

Carine Roitfeld In Australian Grazia

The most recent issue of the Australian edition of Grazia features two short pieces with Carine Roitfeld which my friend Barbara Polyanskaya kindly spotted and scanned for all of us to enjoy. Merci mille fois, Barbara! In one spread titled "Women of Style & Substance," we see Carine in a variety of outfits with buying information for a few choice pieces that fit "the ultimate fashion equation: pencil skirt + hot shoe = smokin'." The other article, "The New It List," compares and contrasts the lacy underthings of La Roitfeld, La Madonna, and La Gaga as they embrace the pantlessness, formidable!
