The Roitfelds At Victoria’s Secret Extravaganza

The general public will not be privy to the show until November 30, but last night Victoria's Secret hosted its annual fashion extravaganza and of course it would not be a party without the Roitfelds. The spectacle of all spectacles went down at the Lexington Armory in New York and Carine Roitfeld and daughter Julia were seated front row. Angels (aka lingerie models) sporting wings and little else on the catwalk included Alessandra Ambrosio, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Chanel Iman, Karolina Kurkova, Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel, and Anne Vyalitsina. Performances by Akon and Katy Perry kept things lively. Among the other stellar guests were Giovanna Battaglia, Malin Ackerman, Tyson Beckford, Estelle, Adrian Grenier, Debbie Harry (pictured here because she is cool as hell), Kate Lanphear, Zac Posen, Russell Simmons, and Alexander Wang. Partygoers ended the evening by dancing the night away at LAVO. See more of the Victoria's Secret show at Fashion Foie Gras.

There is something weird about Carine at a Victoria's Secret fashion show. I've bought plenty there but it is a bit of a lowbrow label (unlike Agent P). It's like Martha Stewart eating at McDonalds, seems like slumming it a bit for someone like Carine, non? Maybe I'm off here.

Cupcake, I am not sure how Carine sorts out which invitations to accept (although clearly I would love to know!) but at least she improved on last year's outfit:

Victoria, I must agree with you, I like the concept of Julia's dress, revealing bits here and there but the execution is somewhat fussy. She does not look entirely comfortable which is unusual for her.

Wow, last year was bad...talk about a fish out of water! There's the Cali girls lined up in the front row in bubblegum pink and boobs like balloons and in walks Tish Adams. No, she's slummin' it...Victoria's Secret is too bimbo and obvious for her (did I mention that I shop there - haha - but we want more for Carine, don't we).

LOL.

We DO want more for Carine, Cupcake! Although if I saw her shopping at my favorite Salvation Army, I would take it in stride.

Oh Carine... Last year she looked she was going to a Halloween party several days too late. I agree with Cupcake, why on earth is Carine there?! This year's ensemble isn't as awful but she doesn't look good.

Her hair has grown and it really suits her like that.

Laughing some more, thank you for that, Milla! I do prefer Carine's hair longer as well but I must disagree regarding her outfit, I really like what she is wearing. A bit unkempt but I like the wildness.

Yes, thank you for reminding me...about that Salvation Army business...why does yours have beautiful silk shirts and French designer skirts and mine has circa 1982 mom jeans??? Where is this thrift store, it's in the Hampton's isn't it?!?

Hee hee, that's one secret that I will never tell, Cupcake!! What if you were my size?

Carine looks great, as usually beautiful hair, beautiful smile. Good that she appeared there, at least we can see her somewhere. Julia is beautiful too, I am not really sure about the outfit; however, the shoes are great.

Exactly, Maya! Anything that gets them out of the house and in front of the cameras, where has Carine been recently?! Seriously though one must have standards and I can see the point that this is somewhat outside of the typical show La Roitfeld would attend. She herself says that she is often inspired by the fashion faux pas of others so maybe instead of slumming she is actually conducting research...

Love this discussion=) I'm agreeing with cupcake, though!

Julia looks uncomfortable because she is amongst real models that are tall, THIN and curvy not just curvy and short.
12 novembre 2010 | Unregistered Commenterhutch
Hey, Hutch, careful there, I am 5'7" myself... NOT short...

; )

Do you really buy into that bullshit that all "real" models are tall, thin, AND curvy? Do you realize how unnatural that is?

Alexander Wang talked with New York Magazine about the Victoria's Secret show (which he attended as a guest of Carine) and he offers this insight into Carine's thoughts about the show:

“She goes every year. She says it's her favorite show. I mean, I know most of these girls in the show, and it's great to see them in a different light. Some of those girls are rarely seen with hair and makeup like that, and it's cool to see them all dressed up like that.”

So I guess that answers the question, Cupcake; it may seem like a weird choice but Carine loves it.
