Battaglia: In Just-Spring

Not quite sure why Giovanna Battaglia immediately reminded me of this e.e. cummings poem but I thought I would share it with you without too much analysis nonetheless because it is a rare opportunity to read these lovely words:

in Just-
spring       when the world is mud-
luscious the little
lame balloonman

whistles       far       and wee

and eddieandbill come
running from marbles and
piracies and it's
spring

when the world is puddle-wonderful

the queer
old balloonman whistles
far       and       wee
and bettyandisbel come dancing

 from hop-scotch and jump-rope and

it's
spring
and
     the

             goat-footed

balloonMan       whistles
far
and
wee

— e.e. cummings, from Tulips and Chimneys (1923)

Giovanna looks exactly mud-luscious and puddle-wonderful here, does she not? Her shoes are perfect for hop-scotching and jump-roping and marbling and piracies! I think I like both her outfit and the poem because they capture an aspect of the early days of spring, not as colorful as the days that follow but lightening and lifting, savoring the bloom and promising more to follow.

She makes fur look airy and light. Maybe she's the balloon-man?

Kate, you are so right! Do you suppose that Vladimir comes running from marbles and piracies when she whistles far and wee?

; )

If she doesn't make Vladimir come running, then I don't know who can!! She's a fab balloon woman. :)

I agree with Kate; the fur looks so light and fresh. Excellent comparison between our favourite Italian and the poem. Milla loves!

Kellina, I'm so in shock that you read my post! I love your blog and I want to be a Roitfeld too... or a Battaglia's friend. Thanks for the visit, and I will follow you on twitter. Beijos do Brazil!

Bonjour, Milla ! Your kind words make my day. Along with several glasses of chilled green tea...

Sil, I visit everyone that talks about my blog. I am a thoroughly curious individual, I'd rather know than anything.

: )

I am so glad to hear that you love the blog and that you want to be a Roitfeld, very cool. Nice point re: Giovanna, I sometimes joke about changing the name to I Want To Be A Battaglia©, her style is superb. What is great is that thanks to Vladimir's discerning taste, we don't have to choose just one.

Beijos!

Keep up with the tea. You know I like to sip mine whilst catching up with your blog. Perfection!

Thank you, Milla! I am loving the green tea.

This is uncanny--while I was scrolling down through the comments for this post yesterday I was drinking Chilled Green Tea! And I plan to again today as I prepare for work. It had a cooling effect on my body temperature. So much so that I had to don my fashionable black sweatshirt with the peppercorn sized hole fashionably situated on the right elbow. I felt a little mud-luscious myself. btw--my daughter said this is one of her favorite poems by e e.

oncet, you are too cool! try a slice of lime in your chilled green tea for überrefreshment. LOL at your fashionable description, sounds luxe. delighted to hear that this is one of shosh's fave poems by cummings, more proof that you have raised her correctly!
