The Roitfelds At Cinema Against AIDS Gala

The amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden Roc is one of the most prestigious parties at Cannes each year. Carine Roitfeld often chairs this special charity event that benefits the research of AIDS; the honors for this year's gala go to Alan Cumming. Among the numerous luminaries on hand to support amfAR were Carine Roitfeld, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld (wearing Mark Fast), Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld, Giovanna Battaglia (wearing Armani Privé), Giorgio Armani, Mischa Barton, Kate Beckinsale, Malgosia Bela, Rachel Bilson, Fan Bingbing, Naomi Campbell, Roberto Cavalli, Georgina Chapman, Kenneth Cole (chair of amfAR), Marion Cotillard, Russell Crowe, Benicio Del Toro, Peter Dundas, Kirsten Dunst, Tom Ford, Fawaz Gruosi, Dree Hemingway, Constance Jablonski, Mick Jagger, Grace Jones, Karolina Kurkova, Diane Kruger, Karl Lagerfeld, Margherita Missoni, Eugenie Niarchos, L'Wren Scott, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Michelle Williams. Apparently it was another fabulous party provoking Giovanna Battaglia to remark, "AmfAR was so much fun!! The best I ever been... Mary J. Blige and Patti Smith were fantastic."

Giovanna looks stunning as usual. Not my favorite outfit for Carine, though.

I'm so late but I'm very excited with your posts, one better than other! I like their dresses. I didn't see them in MET BALL. Did you see any photo? Did they never go to this party?
I really love Giovanna outfit, her necklace was stunning! Bisou mon cheri!
PS: I'm studing frech and choosing brazilian's magazine to send to you. The special edition of 35 years of Vogue Brazil was separated!

Giovanna looks amazing; the glittery gold dress with a hint of rose pink, and then the green necklace. Wow! I love her hair tone as well.

I never thought I'd say this but... Carine's dress thingy is hideous! Why would she choose to wear that, particularly in Cannes during spring.summer? Milla loves Carine but the ensemble has to go! Maybe Julia got a Halloween invitation?! Sorry Julia but come on, that dress is equally awful.

22 mai 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMilla

Milla I agree, Julia's dress is bad. Carine - well, ahem, not at her best either. Vladi looks stoned YET AGAIN (nice way to get through the night though). And Giovanna is the stunner!!!

22 mai 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAmina

Kate, agreed! Giovanna looks like a goddess while Carine's outfit emphasizes her in exactly the wrong places.

Salut, Sil! Pas probleme, je suis tarde aussi. I am thrilled that you like the recent posts. I am fairly sure that the Roitfelds do not attend the Met Ball. I agree, Giovanna chose the perfect outfit for herself, dress and necklace are sublimely suited to her figure and coloring as well as the setting. She looks more like an elegant starlet than the actual actresses! I am so happy to hear that you are studying your French and I am so excited to receive magazines from Brazil from you. That VB special edition sounds amazing!!! Beijos + bisous

Milla, check, check, check!

The colors of Gio's outfit are the perfect complement, I hardly remember her looking more beautiful. Personally I would like to award her the "Best of Cannes" for this choice.

As I mentioned to Kate, the problem that I have with Carine's outfit is that it shows her to serious disadvantage, not Parisienne, not Carine! We prefer her legs to her arms. Also her face and hair get a bit lost against the leopard whereas her typical black helps to define these, two of her most beautiful features. Clearly she is having an off evening here.

Julia, hmmm, this is tougher to articulate. I like her look and I like her dress, but not here and now. Note the amount of coverage on all three, not a leg showing and barely a bit of décolletage. Is this a Cannes tradition or merely a coincidence?

Hi, Amina!! Having adequately critiqued the dresses above, I will stick to Vlad here. Find me a photo in which his eyes do not look like this! He is either cursed with those eyes or he has a "nice way to get through most every night"...

; )

Also, hardly anyone remarks on his style! Vladimir is wearing Armani if anyone cares.

Something just caught my eye and I cannot let Giovanna remain flawless in our assessment: she should have taken off the colored bracelets on her left arm to achieve utter perfection. I know they are her trademark, I would have preferred the utter perfection in this instance.

22 mai 2010 | Registered Commenterkellina

Heh, in reading Amina's comment again, we can summarize the couple thusly—The Stoner & The Stunner.

; )

22 mai 2010 | Registered Commenterkellina

WOW they all look amazing!!

Amina is so right, and I like the new tag line Kellina - "The Stoner & The Stunner"! I just don't get his style at all. I vote for a shave and a haircut - he just looks out of place there.

Hardly noticed the bracelets but once again, you're right. Also I would have preferred a clutch with that dress. That said, she looks amazing.

I dare not comment further on Carine's train wreck of an ensemble... The only positive thing about Julia's Halloween costume is that it highlights her gorgeous shape. Other than that, no, no, NO!!!

23 mai 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMilla

You are all so critical on their dress, they have heaps of fashion sense. Carine looks stunning in her outfit and julia looks edgy. Im sure you wouldnt say nothing if she was wearing a frilly fancy that j-lo was wearing which was pretty awful in my eyes.

23 mai 2010 | Unregistered CommenterA Yates

Hi, Kaila! Glad you like!

23 mai 2010 | Registered Commenterkellina

Just LOL, Milla, so right, so right!! Shave and a haircut, two bits!! I vote for that. Someone voiced the idea of a haircut for Vlad a while back but when I asked for a concrete visual of his next cut, nothing surfaced. You are the woman for this mission, Milla, send me a pic of Vladi's ideal hair and I will post it...

; )

23 mai 2010 | Registered Commenterkellina

A Yates, you are correct, we have serious cajones for criticizing three of the most beautiful women to ever walk the planet. They OWN style, in my humble estimation. But that's what makes the blog fun for those of us that hang around regularly, comparing notes on outfits and figuring out our own likes and dislikes. Just for fun!

p.s. you are sooooo dead on re: that jlo merde, that's some bad sh!t, and notice if you do a search that you are the first person to reference her on the site!! we don't even discuss things that truly suck.

; )

23 mai 2010 | Registered Commenterkellina

I'm on a serious mission now!!

23 mai 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMilla

Go, Milla!

23 mai 2010 | Registered Commenterkellina

I do like Carine´s arms, but I totally agree, that the leopard print takes away too much of her face.
Giovanna: Why does she always look so tense? I mean, she obviously is used to being in the spotlight, so why does her face never relax on any pic? But for sure, great dress for her.
Julia: just the opposite - her face is always worth looking, she seems to play with the camera without any effort. Her dress is really hard to look at, makes me think of ABBA...

25 mai 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMononoke

Hi, Mononoke. Yes, no disrespect towards Carine's arms but I would prefer that a different feature dominate.

I think Giovanna looks tense because of the incredible demand for perfection that she places on herself. Who but a perfectionist could come up with her outfits?

Re: your next point, I believe it is partly that Gio likes to please others, Julia likes to please herself. Let's also assume that Julia's mother taught her the trick of making love to the camera long ago... Thanks a bunch, now "Dancing Queen" is stuck in my head!
