Carine Roitfeld: La Science Du Reve

Remember when Carine Roitfeld chose Charlotte Gainsbourg as the guest editor for the December 2007/January 2008 issue of Vogue Paris? It is a gorgeous issue and I would like to revisit an editorial that features Gainsbourg titled "La science du rêve" which I find especially beautiful. Styled by Carine and photographed by Craig McDean, Gainsbourg has a feminine, artful look that is quite the opposite of her typical casual attire; it is most becoming. As Carine writes, we know Charlotte in jeans and cowboy boots but like all great actresses she loves changing roles, taking on that of the more sophisticated femme fatale here.

Note the shoes. (Only women will notice them.)

Right you are, Kate, those Prada shoes are designed to make women want them. I think I have photos of both Julia and Giovanna wearing them, I should look around for those...

I must admit that I don't love it. I really want to but there is something about Charlotte which just doesn't work for me. I don't know... Nice hair though.

Bonjour, Miss Milla!!

; D

Yeah, I think this is one that either appeals to you or doesn't. I really like how Carine used the darks and lights to emphasize Charlotte's skin. I also think Ms. Gainsbourg's expression adds nicely to the whole. I feel like there's a story here. Is it just this photo or the whole editorial? Or CG herself?

She does have brilliant hair, I read (possibly in this same issue of VP) that like Julia she uses Kerastase products...
