Vogue Paris March 2011: Saskia de Brauw

Carine Roitfeld's last cover for Vogue Paris... that is all I have to say right now, I have no words. To learn more about Carine's choice of models for her farewell cover, Saskia de Brauw, follow her blog. Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott photographed Saskia in a gown from the Givenchy Spring/Summer 2011 collection for the March issue of Vogue Paris. What do you think of Carine's last cover?

Does anyone know what is Carine's plan for future???

Not yet, longredthread. I promise to post anything I hear as soon as it is confirmed. The suspense is killing me, what is Carine's next move?!

This is getting quite bad reviews but I think I like it... I need it on my coffee table before I can decide.

I really do like the new and improved typography used since the October issue as the focus is on the model, so opening the magazine is almost like a surprise. Also, the simplified cover is a reflection of Carine as we've seen with her style, her home and her office.

Milla, I agree, I need to see the physical reality before passing judgment. I like both your observations, I had not make the connection between the new typographic treatment and the emphasis on the model, a nice change. You are right about the cover reflecting Carine's preference for minimalism; her last image is so minimal as to be nearly without reference, an unusual accomplishment in fashion.

I like the warmth of the cover. So far, in premature judgment, the only thing off putting is maybe the mouth-open stare. But, I rarely pick apart magazine covers unless something is severely wrong ( IE too photo shopped, bad cropping, etc. etc.) So, that being said, I think it looks fine and I will certainly be purchasing this issue, and cannot wait to see what is inside.

Funny observation, Ms. Paradise! I read in The Cut that Saskia said the theme of the cover was “inspired by a movie, but which movie it is will have to be a surprise”. I'm thinking Rosemary's Baby! What film do you think inspired Carine's last cover?
18 février 2011 | Registered Commenterkellina
I've been trying to figure out the film as well... The only thing deterring me are her eyebrows. Ironic since they're the anti-Carine's brows and just wrong because there's nothing there...

Initially I thought the cover was very spring-like but now, with the rich, warm colour-scheme, all I can think of is Autumn.

I think this cover is not a bad cover, but yet i'd hoped for more since it's carine's last cover... it's a little bit disappointing, it seems like i have seen this cover a million times before, just a bit boring...

although i am looking very forward to seeing the content and to seeing which photographers and models and stories carine wanted to feature in her very last vogue issue ever... :)

I agree with KC, I expected something more exciting

Kellina, I agree with the Polanski / Rosemary's baby! Today, the vogue website mentioned that the issue is inspired by surrealism. I cannot wait to see this issue, especially the Jewelery!

Milla, it makes me think of autumn as well and the film has to be Rosemary's Baby! I watched it this weekend to confirm my suspicion. Interesting message Carine is trying to send...

; )

I find it kind of fascinating, KC, especially contrasted with her first VP cover, I wonder if she knew it was her last when she created it.
21 février 2011 | Registered Commenterkellina
I hope you find what is inside more exciting, Luci! It is Carine's last one, a treasure!

Thanks for the back up, Ms. Paradise! Cannot wait to see the surrealistic interior...
