Julia Restoin-Roitfeld In Grazia

New in the Roitfeld photo gallery: an interview with Julia Restoin-Roitfeld by Grazia, among the photos was this sweet one of her with her mom that I hadn't seen before. Taken at a fashion show in 1993, Julia was 13 and Carine was 39 at the time. Notice that Julia is wearing a cool black tshirt that says "New York" in white letters, even then she was interested in the city that she now calls home. In the article she admits to a bit of fashion rebellion around this period in her life, wearing Doc Martens and wanting a piercing (which Carine condoned as long as she could go along), but Julia felt that the freedom of New York really allowed her to discover her own style: "I found it easier to build my own identity [in New York]. In Paris, they judge you more. It's hard to be bold in Paris and try your own thing."

Happy Birthday Julia Restoin-Roitfeld!

Happiest of birthday wishes to Mademoiselle Julia Restoin-Roitfeld who turns 29 today. She and her boyfriend Robert Konjic are both Scorpios, perhaps an extended birthday holiday is the explanation behind Julia's notable absence from her brother Vladimir's opening on Monday night. Whatever she is doing to celebrate, I hope that she enjoys her special day. Joyeux anniversaire, Julia !

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld In Vogue China

Speaking of sexy superheros, check it out... Julia Restoin-Roitfeld appears in an editorial for the December 2009 issue of Vogue China titled "From Runway to Her Way" styled by Anya Ziourova and shot by Kai Z Feng. If anyone can translate the titles and captions from Chinese, I would truly appreciate your help with this. [Editor's note: See translation below thanks to LALALand.] I love all of the clothes chosen for this editorial, the pieces work together like the ultimate mix-n-match wardrobe. Glove love all around: the way they used the long black gloves as a belt in the D&G shot is clever; the gloves featured above are my new favorite accessory. It is unusual to see Julia's hair swept off of her face like this, I think I like it.

Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld Presents Nicolas Pol

Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld's latest show opened at 80 Essex Street with a private party last night and it looks like a wild scene as usual. Vladimir partnered with RVCA to present Nicolas Pol's work for the first time in America in a show titled "The Martus Maw." The space for the show sounds amazing, a converted meat market with many of the meaty aspects still intact, "It took us seven months to find the space, and get the city to approve it. It's the perfect setting for Nicolas' historical but anarchic aesthetic." explained Vladimir.

Guests were invited to dinner at Indochine after the opening. Why here? Vladimir responds, "Indochine is my favorite restaurant in New York City. I love the food, I love the lighting, I love the atmosphere." Guests for the event included Vladimir's parents, Carine Roitfeld and Christian Restoin, Giovanna Battaglia, Jean Paul Gaultier, Genevieve Jones, Olivier Zahm, Kelly Klein, Byrdie Bell, Fabiola Beracasa, George Wayne, Erin Wasson, Starvos Niarchos, Olympia Scarry, Daphne Guinness, Andre Balazs, Vito Schnabel, Garance Doré, Scott Schuman, Nur Khan, and Lauren, Andreas, and Tatiana Santo Domingo. The sad news is that it looks like Julia Restoin-Roitfeld did not make it to her little brother's opening, quel horreur ! Maybe she really is moving to London as I've been reading lately... Say it isn't so! Check the gallery for lots of photos from the Nicolas Pol opening.
