Les Belles Roitfelds

Nothing much to say really, just two beautiful photographs of two beautiful women. Julia Restoin-Roitfeld is working a more sophisticated look bordering on prudish but it becomes her. As for the photo of Carine, what can I say. Just focus on her expression peeking out from behind her hair then look over at the cherubs. As I said, I have no words...

Roitfeld In Humor Chic

I just discovered this witty illustration of Carine Roitfeld by aleXsandro Palombo, an Italian fashion designer and knitwear pioneer who also portrays the world of fashion with deft strokes in his wonderful art. If you like Palombo's work, check out his book Vanitas, Inshallah which includes the piece featured here and over one hundred other images by the artist. Colorful, surreal, poetic, provocative, Palombo's shrewd naïveté draws you into his picture. Visit his blog Humor Chic for his daily portrait of society, très drôle, très chic.

Vogue Hommes International Spring/Summer 2010: Kate Moss

The new issue of Vogue Hommes International features supermodel Kate Moss on the cover in a sultry beach shoot photographed by Mario Sorrenti and styled by Emmanuelle Alt. Please note that since this is a magazine that focuses on menswear, there is very little for Kate to actually model as she romps in the sand and surf. The editorials include "L'Étoffe des Héros" styled by Beat Bolliger and shot by David Sims (which looks to continue the Nouveau Western theme we have seen from Vogue Paris of late), "Basquiat" styled by Anastasia Barbieri and shot by Cedric Buchet, "Elvis" styled by Emmanuelle Alt and shot by David Sims, and "Noureiev" styled by Carine Roitfeld and shot by Patrick Demarchelier. Looks to be a hot issue...

Vogue Paris April 2010: Natasha Poly

Though I have yet to see an image of the cover of Vogue Paris for April, I have it on good authority that Carine Roitfeld has chosen Natasha Poly for the honor. I may swap this former image out once I have the new one, but wanted to share the news with you so that we can anticipate it together. The cover shown here is from the September 2007 issue of Vogue Paris and was shot by Patrick Demarchelier. If I am wrong and it is a different model, I will delete this and we will pretend it never happened. It is good to have control.

p.s. I hear it may have a Nouveau Western theme to boot, giddyup!

Carine Roitfeld Reads My Blog

Carine Roitfeld claims that she neither uses a computer nor reads blogs though she seems to text with abandon. In fact, Carine stated in an interview with Alena Doletskaya of Vogue Russia: "Generally, I do not read blogs, but I am aware of what is happening. Perhaps in the future they will work for us." However, in an interview with ZEIT Online Carine specified that she has been reading my blog and it has aroused her curiosity [originally published in German with my rough English translation following]:

If Roitfeld ever gets in a bad mood, she could open the drawer and take out her computer. On the Internet there is a site where she is revered as a heroine. I Want To Be A Roitfeld is the web site that collects the many details about her and her family. Photos of her Paris apartment are publicly available in addition to information about her favorite tranquilizer Lexomil. "I would like to ask this blogger at times how she finds her information. I recently ate at a Chinese restaurant that is completely unknown, and the next day a photo of the menu was on the blog." [The restaurant to which she refers is Au Coin des Gourmets.] Roitfeld, the queen of the glossy press, wonders about the good that will come out of this strange new online world.

[Editor's note: If you can supply a better translation of this passage or the entire article, I would be most grateful.]
