Vogue Paris Translation: Editorial, November 2010

Below you can read my translation from French to English of the editorial authored by Carine Roitfeld for the November issue of Vogue Paris.

While autumn is in full swing and the morale is the color of the sky, the desire for elsewhere and for freedom is felt more than ever. This alternative was inspired by a long flight, the destination any sunny paradise, this new issue of Vogue is a beach getaway. The fashion of the hour is the hippie revival and the bohemian spirit. Long skirt in lightweight cotton, abundant prints, disinhibited colorama, customized jeans, assumed nudity, cheeky kimono... Influences collide in a look universal and emancipated: More by Barbet Schroeder in the shaker with a scorching Japan, the skaters of Wassup Rockers, the evanescent Bilitis fashion of David Hamilton... Also in summary, an exclusive tour of one of the most beautiful houses in Malibu, the ocean just for you at 180°; a very personal encounter with the discreet Bambou, the last companion of Serge Gainsbourg, who joins her son Lulu on an album. Without forgetting a stop to the extreme at Burning Man, probably the craziest alternative gathering, where all creative sorts, freaks, nomads and golden youth find themselves in an endless quest for strong sensations. This is the change of scenery.

Vogue Paris 2011 Calendar Preview

Time for a new Vogue Paris calendar and thanks to the VP web site we have a look at the cover. It appears as though fashion did not actually play a role in this year's calendar starring Daria Werbowy wearing jewelry by Louis Vuitton and little else. Mikael Jansson photographed the 2011 calendar.

Restoin-Roitfeld Launches Hambleton In London

Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld partnered with Andy Valmorbida and Giorgio Armani to host pop expressionist Richard Hambleton's first art exhibit in London and as surely as the champagne and vodka flowed it was another sold out show. "Richard Hambleton—New York" opened at The Dairy with a private viewing of works by the artist, half of which had never been shown before. Of course Carine Roitfeld turned out to support her son's endeavor, financially as well as maternally: “I am incredibly proud of him and I love the art too; I have bought a small, very classic piece.”

Vladimir looked masterful in a black Armani suit welcoming a beautiful array of guests including his mother and his father, Christian Restoin, his girlfriend, Giovanna Battaglia, Roberta Armani, Lara Stone, David Walliams, Imogen Poots, Amber Le Bon, Holly Fulton, Pam Hogg, Jameela Jamil, Reggie Yates, Saffron Le Bon, Zara Martin, Annabel Wallis, James Ruso, Kensington Leverne, and Craig Lawrence.

La Roitfeld was amusing as ever at the party, sharing anecdotes about Vladimir: "He wasn't a particularly artistic child — he was more turned on to football, and I never took him to museums," and a juicy aside with Grazia — she will be back in London next week for a Vogue Paris shoot with ten of the UK's best fashion designers including Mary Katrantzou, definitely an editorial I do not want to miss.

"Richard Hambleton—New York" is on view to the general public now until December 3, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at The Dairy, 7 Wakefield Street. Visit the photo gallery to see more of the party.

Vogue Paris December 2010/January 2011: Tom Ford

Woo hoo! Love, love, love the cover of the December/January issue of Vogue Paris featuring guest editor Tom Ford and Daphne Groenveld! Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott snapped the festive photo. About Monsieur Ford's reign as guest editor for VP, editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld had this to say: "Tom has an eye like a scanner. He took his role very seriously. He is truly multitalented.” The 2011 Vogue Paris calendar girl is Daria Werbowy photographed by Mikael Jansson. The holiday issue will be available beginning on November 30. Except for Charlotte Gainsbourg, I have never looked forward to a guest editor with more anticipation — can't wait!!!!!

Review: Vogue Paris November 2010 Issue

I always enjoy reading the candid reviews of Vogue Paris by Milla from the blog Not Just Another Milla, for better or for worse she calls it like she sees it! Unfortunately the November issue fails to live up to her standards, though there are a few bits she likes including the editorial featured here "La Geisha" as well as the magazine's new type treatment. Milla graciously agreed to share her review with us, be sure to visit her blog for the full story.

I don’t like it. I don’t like it at all.

The «Un dimanche à la campagne» is considerably less offensive than the online scans, however I stand by my original statement that it is unnecessary and wrong to show a semi-nude child. If we choose to let our children run around the house in the nude, that is our choice. However, this is a public arena, and it is not acceptable.

The new typography is much, much better and gives the magazine a fresher, more youthful vibe. This issue is the perfect size and it seems to me that there’s more cultural/events information. Any other readers noticed? The styling is so far away from my personal tastes and the fashion I have experienced in France that it’s hard to grasp where the editors are going with this issue. You’ve got rock chick/roller girl/Freja’s breasts and ridiculous wig (photographed by Hedi Slimane)/gypsy girl/weird naked guy and a blond Pocahontas. I don’t know about you, but my Pocahontas is a brunette.

The biggest surprise comes from a Terry Richardson photographed/Carine Roitfeld styled editorial starring Freja Beha Erichsen. With the exception of one breast, there is no nudity. Of course, Freja is staring innocently, victim-like into the camera whilst positioned submissively (God, he creeps me out…) but no nudity. Freja’s hair looks good though.
