Perfect Gifts For Roitfeld Fans: Beauty

We are in the midst of the holiday season and we must take time to be sure our gift lists are in fabulous order. Every stylish person needs beauty products, to give and to get, so I searched my archives for interviews with Julia Restoin-Roitfeld that inquire about her beauty routine and these are spliced below. Oddly reporters rarely ask her mother, Carine Roitfeld, this pertinent question but I did discover a few of her secrets. You will find an assortment of luxurious ideas based on the Roitfeld's beauty preferences that are sure to bring a smile to the face of your favorite fashionista... Or perhaps you have been extra good this year and deserve a little treat yourself...

For the Carine Roitfeld look, less is more: focus on the eye and leave the skin free of foundation and the lips natural. Carine prefers Yves Saint Laurent Dessin Du Regard Haute Tenue Eye Liner in Mink Touch for "le smoky eye." She completes her minimal routine with Yves Saint Laurent Eyebrow Pencil in #2 Brown to tame her eyebrows and finish the look.

What are Julia Restoin-Roitfeld's beauty essentials?

"I use lots of moisturizer — La Prairie Skin Caviar. For everyday I prefer to go for a more natural look. I never wear foundation, just a bit of Yves Saint Laurent Touch Éclat concealer and some Shiseido Blush Stick on my cheeks. I use a lot of mascara and Chanel Ligne Extreme eyeliner in Encre Noire, on my lips, Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream."

In Julia Restoin-Roitfeld's makeup bag you will find...

Chanel New York Red Crème Lipstick

MAC LipGlass

Yves Saint Laurent Touch Éclat concealer

Shiseido Blush Stick

Chanel Ligne Extreme eyeliner in Encre Noire

Chanel Inimitable Mascara

Chanel Irréelle Soleil Bronzer

"I try not to wear too much makeup — I never wear foundation, just tons of moisturizer. Alka Seltzer before going to bed after a tough night!"

What’s the best beauty advice your mother gave you? That the attitude and the charms of a woman are way more important than the physical features.

I can't live without... RoC Hydra + Anti-Fatique Mask.

My favorite treatment is... A manicure or body scrub at the Carita Institute in Paris.

You have great hair. What’s your secret? I put in tons of conditioner. I love all the Kérastase products, especially Kérastase Soleil. And I try to protect them as much as possible under the sun. My own trick is to protect it with some borage oil. It’s the best nourishing oil. I also take borage as pills in the morning and put some on my skin after being exposed under the sun. I take Oenobiol Solaire capsules and use Avène Emulsion Solaire SPF 20.

I get my hair done at... Romain Colors in Paris or I use John Frieda Color Glaze.

And your favorite fragrance? I mix two scents together which makes my perfume more unique. For example I like to mix Aqua Motu with Aloha Tiare from Comptoir Sud Pacifique.

Other favorite fragrances:

Coqui Coqui Perfumes Maderas Eau De Cologne

Tom Ford Black Orchid

Jil By Jil Sander

Sensual Jil By Jil Sander

Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Pour Homme

My newest beauty discovery is... Drinking fresh apple, carrot, and ginger juice every morning. It gives you brilliant skin in a week.

My best beauty tip is... Start taking care of yourself at an early age.

Perfect Gifts For Roitfeld Fans: Jewelry

Looking for that special sparkle for the holidays? The Roitfelds know fine jewelry and wear fabulous contemporary and vintage pieces constantly, below is a list of a few family favorites. Any of these designers are sure to shine as perfect gifts beneath the tree... Or against your skin at that glamorous party... I know you've been very, very good this year...

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak
This is Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld's preferred watch.

Tom Binns
Julia Restoin-Roitfeld collects the beautiful and original creations of Irish designer Tom Binns. I am in love with his clever and elegant necklaces.

Alexis Bittar
Julia likes the statement pieces designed by Alexis Bittar; the cuff pictured here from his "Miss Havisham" line was a gift from her boyfriend, Robert Konjic.

Lara Bohinc
One of Julia's favorite pieces in her jewelry collection is her Lara Bohinc bracelet, another gift from Robert Konjic to mark their first year together. Pictured above on her right wrist.

Cartier Love bracelet
The classic Cartier Love bracelet was a gift to Julia from her parents, Carine Roitfeld and Christian Restoin. Pictured above on her left wrist.

César compression pendant
Carine wears this striking gold pendant frequently, one of a limited series of "Compressions" made by César, a noted French Nouveau Réalisme sculptor, in 1971 for the jeweler Pascal Morabito. Good luck finding one of your own!

Dary's
One of Julia's shopping staples for vintage and modern accessories is the Parisian vintage jewelry store Dary's in Paris, an Ali Baba's cave lined with glistening jewels and stuffed with curious objects...

Elsa Peretti bottle necklace

Hermès collier du chien
I love how Julia pairs a sweet little dress with the Hermès collier du chien to tough it up. As an added gift: the pattern for the Hermès collier du chien so you can make your own.

Pamela Love
Julia is often photographed wearing jewelry by her close friend and talented artisan Pamela Love, particularly her talon cuff and her claw necklace; nor is Love's talent limited to the ladies, Robert Konjic also wears the claw necklace and Vladimir likes her silver bracelet.

Genevieve Jones
Another friend of Julia's that designs unique jewelry and handbags which she is seen wearing. Julia returned the favor by designing her logo.

Gaïa Repossi
Notice that both Julia and her friend Gaïa Repossi are wearing rings from the Czarina line, a filigree collection inspired by Russian iconography and crafted in four different golds by Repossi and Eugenie Niarchos. I rarely see Julia without hers.

Carine Roitfeld At Bulgari Opening

In celebration of their 125th anniversary, Bulgari opened an exciting new exhibit in Paris last night and of course Carine Roitfeld was among the shining crowd of nearly 6,000 glamorous guests. Bulgari: 125 Years of Italian Magnificence is on display at Le Grand Palais and showcases notable events in the company's history from its first store on Via Sistina in 1884 up to present day. The impressive collection spans eight galleries and includes over 600 stunning pieces, some of which were worn by stars such as Princess Grace, Ingrid Bergman, Sophia Loren, and Elizabeth Taylor over the years. The interior space of Le Grand Palais was remarkably transformed to give partygoers the sensation of being inside a cut gem. Nicola Bulgari and Francesco Trapani hosted the sparkling celebration including guests such as Haider Ackermann, Liliane Bettencourt, Juliette Binoche, Bianca Brandolini, Bruno Frisoni, Johnny Hallyday, Lenny Kravitz, Karl Lagerfeld, Claude Lelouch, Julianne Moore, Clive Owen, Princess Clotilde Courau, and Giambattisa Valli. Bulgari: 125 Years of Italian Magnificence is open to the public in Paris from December 10 through January 12, 2011, travelling next to China to be displayed in Beijing and Shanghai.

Roitfeld At Chanel Paris-Byzance

For the past decade, Chanel has organized a special show each December outside of the typical Fashion Week schedule in order to honor the superior work of the house's artisans. Known as "Métiers d'Art," this lovely tradition showcases the quality craftmanship for which Chanel is famous. "Paris to Byzantium" is the theme for this Chanel pre-collection and the clothes are unusually gorgeous. Inspired by the splendor of the Byzantine empire and in particular his muse, Empress Theodora, Karl Lagerfeld gives us a hint of the luxury and beauty of this fallen empire. Velvets, silks, and tweeds swept down the runway, heavily embellished with crystals and Bohemian tulle. Of course Carine Roitfeld was on hand for the splendiferous event, I wonder if she plans to wear anything from this exotic collection... The Chanel artisans that were honored include Desrues for metalwork, Goossens for goldsmithing, Guillet for artificial flowers, Lemarie for feathers, Lesage for embroidery, Michel for millinery, and Massaro for shoemaking.

Carine Roitfeld In The Crowd

Pierre-Alban HF asked me to share his wonderful photographs of Carine Roitfeld, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Giovanna Battaglia, and other fashion favorites with you and I am thrilled to oblige. I particularly love the playfulness between Carine and Emmanuelle Alt that he captures in the first two shots. He refers to the two women as "Icônes — drôles et impertinentes — d'une presse mode décompléxée. Carine Roitfeld et Emmanuelle Alt respirent la mode et sa liberté, son insolence." or in English, "Icons — amusing and impertinent — of a non-taboo fashion press. Carine Roitfeld and Emmanuelle Alt exude fashion and its liberty, its insolence." Please visit Pierre's site, The Crowd Magazine, to view more of his fine work. Merci mille fois, Pierre !
