Roitfeld Chairs ANDAM

Carine Roitfeld leads the panel of judges for the ANDAM Fashion Award this year and the list of nominees for 2010 has just been announced. The chosen designers are Mark Fast, Calla Haynes, Bouchra Jarrar, Francesco Scognamiglio, Alexandre Vauthier, and Hakaan Yildirim. The winner will be named in June.

ANDAM (which translates into English as National Association for the Development of the Fashion Arts) provides generous support for emerging designers by offering the world's biggest international fashion prize. The ANDAM Fashion Award increased about 38 percent this year to 220,000 euros (approximately $278,000) which exceeds other comparable prizes such as the CFDA/Vogue US Award, the BFC/Vogue UK Award, or the Swiss Textile Award. Candidates for the prize must either reside in or plan to operate the business out of France; be under forty years of age; have marketed commercially at least one season but have generated less than 1.5 million euros internationally in 2009; and cannot have won recent ANDAM grants or other endowments.

Upon agreeing to chair this year's panel, Carine said: "I am happy and proud to be offering my experience and contributing to the selection of tomorrow's talents. Providing support for young designers is an integral part of our mission at Vogue Paris, as well as a deep personal commitment of mine.” Other respected experts on the jury include Hilary Alexander, Paul Benyamine, Nathalie Dufour, Alber Elbaz, Pamela Golbin, Jefferson Hack, Gene Krell, Humberto Leon, Sarah Lerfel, Virginie Mouzat, Jean-Jacques Picart, and Jean-Pierre Simon. Ten private partners join together in support of this effort: Diesel Group, Galeries Lafayette, Gucci Group, Hudson’s Bay Company, L’Oréal Professionnel, Longchamp, LVMH Group, Only The Brave, Saks Fifth Avenue, and The Pierre Bergé and Yves Saint Laurent Foundation.

Roitfeld Family Art

Check out this adorable collage made by Julia Restoin-Roitfeld for one of her classes she took at Parsons in New York. She has assembled small images of her family members into the form of the iconic photograph of her mother Carine taken by Karl Lagerfeld. Yes, there are even tiny pictures of Julia's elusive father Christian Restoin if you squint hard. Ingénieux, n'est-ce pas ?

Red Hot Roitfeld

Carine Roitfeld styled the Givenchy Autumn/Winter advertising campaign pictured here and it is red hot. Appearing minimal on the surface, the textures fascinate me. The campaign stars house muse Mariacarla Boscono, along with models Malgosia Bela, Willy Cartier, Jonathan Marquez, Catherine McNeil, Simon Nessman, Paolo Roldan, Joan Smalls, Lea T, and Ming Xi; the photography is by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot.

Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci points out that he chose a transexual as one of the models to exemplify the masculine/feminine dichotomy that pervades his design. His personal assistant and former house model Leo is now known as Lea T and as Tisci says, "She’s always been very feminine: superfragile, very aristocratic. She’s part of the family.” The campaign will appear in the July issue of L'Uomo Vogue.

Vogue Paris Supplements

Wow! I feel so denied, naïve, and excited all at once... I have been vaguely aware of the Vogue Paris supplements produced by Carine Roitfeld and company but I stress the word vaguely. I just realized that I have received the second issue in my subscription and no supplement! After a bit of research I find that the supplements are available with Vogue Paris in France only. Sigh.

If any readers have scans of past supplements they would like to share, I would be exceedingly grateful as they look to be wonderful. Take for example the cover from the April supplement to Vogue Paris shown above, "Beauty Guide" with Anja Rubik... who doesn't want to see the answers behind that cover?! C'mon, give, who has supplements...

Vogue Paris Collections Automne-Hiver 2011

Carine Roitfeld compiles a visual reference to the collections of each season, neatly cataloging the clothing and accessories from each show (not just those in Paris but also New York, London, and Milan). Lucky for us La Roitfeld makes this resource publicly available, it is the Vogue Paris Collections. The Autumn 2010/Winter 2011 edition of the Vogue Paris Collections will be on newsstands May 5 with the inspiring creations of 130 different designers. Intriguingly the collage of photos on the cover all spotlight Freja Beha Erichsen, a fierce Danish model. This limited edition publication is an indispensable tool for fashionistas as well as a collector's item so be sure to pick up a copy, browsing it will occupy many a lazy summer afternoon.
