Hakaan Yildirim Wins ANDAM

Carine Roitfeld chaired the ANDAM Fashion Award committee this year which today announced Hakaan Yildirim as the winning designer. I guess La Roitfeld liked what she saw when she flew in during London Fashion Week just for Yildirim's collection. He will show in Paris now and must also open shop in France having won the ANDAM award. Upon learning that he had won, Yildirim said "This is so magical. We are honored.” The other designers chosen for the prestigious award were Mark Fast, Calla Haynes, Bouchra Jarrar, Francesco Scognamiglio, and Alexandre Vauthier.

Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld In French

In February 2009, Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld organized a show titled "The Works of Three Photographers" that included his friends PC Valmorbida, David Mushegain, and Salim Langatta. Housed at Collective Hardware on the Lower East Side and sponsored by Louis Vuitton, the exhibit ran for only four days but someone had the fortitude to capture the spirit of the opening on video. Check out this Facebook video in which Vladimir (along with sister Julia) appears at 1.19; though we hear only Vlad he speaks in French which I had not yet heard, c'est magnifique.

As an aside, pop over to see the latest Giovanna Battaglia photo from The Sartorialist, bellissima...

Black Carine Roitfeld

I have no idea what to say about the latest illustration of Carine Roitfeld by aleXsandro Palombo on his blog Humor Chic but it made me laugh when I saw it so I have decided to share it with you. Not only has aleXsandro added pigment to Carine's hair and skin, he has completely messed with her fashion sense. A bit wild, non ?

Christian Restoin Photographs

In honor of Father's Day I have added a new set of photos to the gallery featuring the patriarch of the Restoin-Roitfeld clan, Christian "Sisley" Restoin. Partner to Carine Roitfeld for more than thirty years, father of Julia and Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld, and founder of Equipment Clothing yet only a few photos of Monsieur Restoin exist in the public domain. I absolutely love the relaxed vibe the family has in the shot above. If anyone has additional images to add to the collection I would be delighted, please let me know.

Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld In SPREAD

The latest issue of SPREAD ArtCulture Magazine includes a brief interview titled "Star Child" with Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld in which he discusses his motivation for dealing art. "The whole thing came very naturally to me," confesses Vladi, "I love all the angles of the project: The human side of working so closely with the artist, the creative side of putting on the show, and the business side of promoting and selling the art."

Does Monsieur Restoin-Roitfeld offer any advice for aspiring art dealers? "When you start in this business, artists are not running after you. So you need to seize opportunities when you can, and then it is your job to prove that you can actually be good at it."

Notice that in the photo above, he is posed in front of a painting from the "Shadowman" series by his client Richard Hambleton. At the zenith of his popularity, Hambleton commanded fees and fame for his art that far exceeded that of his contemporaries Basquiat and Haring; Vladimir has clearly proven that he is great at this. I look forward to many provocative exhibits in this curator's future as he continues to shake up the conventions of the art world.
