Restoin-Roitfeld And Konjic In Love

Remember a couple of weeks ago when I posted the article "Restoin-Roitfeld And Konjic In Croatia" and asked if anyone could help with a translation? Krasi Genova generously offered to translate the text from Croatian to English for which we should all thank her. It's got lots of juicy bits about Julia and Robert that we might not have known otherwise. Hvala vam, Krasi!

Swedish model Robert Konjic brings his girlfriend Julia Restoin-Roitfeld to Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik reminds me of New York—full of tourists everywhere, all kinds of people are hanging around and having fun, and here I am talking with beautiful Julia Restoin-Roitfeld (28), model and designer and well known as the face of Tom Ford’s perfume Black Orchid. This beautiful brunette woman is the daughter of Carine Roitfeld—editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris—and current girlfriend of Robert Konjic, a top Swedish model with Croatian roots. Robie, as he is known among his friends and in the fashion field, is the face behind the Nautica and Gucci campaigns.

Two Scorpios

"Before knowing Robie I had heard a lot about beautiful Croatia, but I never came here even for a holiday. I hope to find time to come for the summer soon," said Julia, who lives in New York after graduating Parsons. She first met Robert a year ago, in a restaurant called Il Buco but love sparked just a few months ago. “We met at a dinner party, I went there with my brother Vladimir. I liked him instantly but he was with another girl. Later on we met at a New Year’s Eve party in Mexico, and we felt instantly that there was something between us." He liked the beautiful blue eyes of Julia and her sense of humor and kindness but he admitted his feelings only after they came back to London. She invited him to New York and since then they are together as a couple. “So far we’ve been together in Tuscany, Paris, Moscow, Mexico," says Robert who has in his past a previous marriage and a relationship with Dita Von Teese. Like characters from a romantic American love story they are fully and madly in love. “Robert is a wonderful man. We are both Scorpios and most of the time I feel like I know him from before,” says Julia who after Dubrovnik will fly to Paris to visit her parents and prepare for the upcoming fashion season.

Vogue Paris October 2009: Kate Moss

The October issue of Vogue Paris features Roitfeld favorite Kate Moss as shot by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. The focus is "Spécial Top Models". Hmmm, not a lot of surprises there...

I think I like Kate's look, a bit icy, painterly—if you focus your eyes on just the highlights, the photograph is phenomenal. The tableau is perfectly crafted, too; the gray background is just the right foil to the lightness of Kate and the fur. The texture is remarkable, it really looks in spots as if someone pulled a paintbrush through it, the wisps of fur, her hair, up the side of her neck.

Some critics remarked on the absence of the "G" from the cover but I think that bit of the letter arcing out of her head would be horrible. Another possibility is to move Kate upwards so that the lack of "G" is anticipated, but perhaps Carine liked how the curves of her hair enhanced the flow of the photo and didn't want to disrupt the line. Featured in the October "Une Fille Un Style" section is Mme Gaspard, the muse of Pierre Cardin in the 1960s.

Lucky subscribers receive a special supplement this month, Vogue Paris : Les secrets de ses plus belles couvertures, a collection of covers of past issues of the magazine with accompanying text that explains the background of each one. Twiggy was selected as the cover model for the supplement. Also included are outtakes from the shoot for the November cover with Mario Sorrenti and an interview with David Bailey.

Roitfeld And Konjic At Burberry Afterparty

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and Robert Konjic are pictured here at the afterparty for Burberry as part of the London Fashion Week 25th anniversary festivities. Julia's cutouts are mesmerizing though I marginally prefer the jacket Robert is wearing. Okay, not really but it's darn close. Is it velvet? And the trim... sheesh, he's cute. I sure hope he auditions for a part in one of Carine's films.

Happy Birthday Carine Roitfeld!

Though it is absolutely impossible to believe, today is Carine Roitfeld's 55th birthday. What do you get for the woman that has everything? To make it easier, let's look at her wish list. Yes, even the illustrious Carine Roitfeld keeps a wish list and here is what she is lusting after this season:

  • Black belted coat: "slightly military, just below the knee"
  • Black cape: “not too fantastical”
  • Velvet pencil skirt: “always on the knee, no one has ever designed the perfect velvet pencil skirt”

Myself, I came up with a gift for all of us—today I am unveiling a new feature on the site in honor of Carine's birthday. I Want To Be A Roitfeld now includes a section titled "Galerie de Roitfeld" filled with photo collections of the Roitfeld family and the people and events in their lives. Nestled in the righthand column right underneath the "Favorites" section, just click on any photo to flip through its related album. I hope you like it...

Based on her birth date, Carine's zodiacal sign is Virgo which is the sixth astrological sign and considered a feminine and earth sign. Virgo is thought to be compatible with Taurus, Capricorn, and Virgo so perhaps this is why she and Karl Lagerfeld (a fellow Virgo) are so close. Virgos are also known for having a discriminating eye, impeccable taste, great attention to detail, and a preference for well-tailored, simple styles. Sounds like an apt description to me...

How do you think Carine celebrates her special day? Pastel tinted macaroons? Loads of gorgeously wrapped and beribboned gifts? Spa day? Please leave your thoughts in the Comments area below. Also, I'd love to know what you think of the new photo gallery feature so feel free to comment on that as well.

Roitfeld And Battaglia Kiss

Whoa—talk about making it official at last!! Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld and Giovanna Battaglia are a couple and here's a kiss to prove it. Thank you to Papermag for this scrumptious snapshot. I guess the mad table dancing got everyone in the mood for love. Can we please make their relationship a reality television show? Then I'd be tempted to watch "the idiot box" as my mother always lovingly referred to it. Mon dieu, this is so beautiful it brings tears to my eyes.
