Restoin-Roitfeld Opens Hambleton In Moscow

Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld has partnered with Andy Valmorbida again to bring the pop expressionist work of street artist Richard Hambleton to Moscow. The exhibit of new work by Hambleton opens today at the State Museum of Modern Art and will be on display through September 29; others cooperating in the event include Moscow City Government, Moscow City Department of Culture, Russian Academy of Arts, and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. The opening party is slated for September 8, I am sure it will be a chic affair. However, since Fashion Celebration Night takes place the previous evening in Paris, mama is going to have to hustle if she plans to be there. The Hambleton exhibit will be shown next in London in November.

Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld In H Magazine

Berto Martínez created this masterful portrait of Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld for a recent issue of H Magazine. I think Martínez has an absolutely gorgeous style of illustration, he shows a knack for attending to detail while keeping it fluid. Apparently there is an article in the magazine that features Vlad as well titled "Flow," please consider sharing with us if you have the good fortune to possess a copy of it. What is your opinion of this image of Vladimir, evocative or no?

Roitfelds On Best Dressed List

It is official — Vanity Fair has just announced their International Best Dressed List for 2010 and Julia and Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld are ranked among the stylish inductees. Visit Vanity Fair for a slide show featuring the entire list of the best of the Best Dressed. (Heh, just noticed the typo in Vladimir's name in the heading! I would be happy to employ my editorial skills on your behalf, Condé Nast... just say the word...)

I Want To Dress Like A Roitfeld

My dear friend Kate Ringo Suzuki paid me the ultimate compliment and invited me to write a guest post for her blog Everyday Glamour. Of course the subject is Carine Roitfeld...

Would you like to learn the secrets to dressing like a Roitfeld? Specifically we will focus on how to dress like Carine Roitfeld, perhaps the most challenging of all. I say "challenging" because if you wish to dress like her son Vladimir, it is simple: don black trousers and either a black or white shirt underneath a black jacket, likely Armani. Julia is a bit less formulaic: a short dress by a newly discovered designer, stilettos and bag by Miu Miu, and stunning original jewelry designed by an FOJ (friend of Julia), perhaps a classmate from Parsons. Loads more variety, yet Julia's style choices are achievable provided you have the figure and the dough.

Now we come to the mother lode of style: Carine Roitfeld, editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris and editorial director of Vogue Hommes International among her many influential roles in the world of fashion (amFar and ANDAM come to mind immediately as other examples).

How to dress like Carine Roitfeld:

1. Awake at 7 a.m., stretch, Pilates.
2. Scent with Opium Body Lotion by Yves Saint Laurent.
3. Create smoky eyes using Yves Saint Laurent liner, groom brows.

Yes, this is all part of dressing like a Roitfeld! Ambience, ma chère, plus nonchalance. Très Roitfeld. Never forget that Pilates provides the perfect underpinnings for any chic ensemble. Carine's signature look combines classic designer pieces, a blouse, a tailored jacket, a knee length skirt, often in black with bare legs and killer shoes. She is most likely to be seen taking risks with transparent clothing underneath a professional exterior while peering mysteriously out from behind her hair. Like I said, challenging...

I will leave you with a few thoughts from Carine Roitfeld's Twitter account:

  • Of all the things you wear, your expression is the most important.
  • Make style an expression of your soul.
  • Fashion is something you buy, STYLE is something you OWN!
  • Fashion is not about utility. It is merely a piece of iconography, to express an individual's identity.
  • Fashion isn't to make you look attractive, it's to make you look different.
  • Never wear anything that panics the animal.
  • I dress for women and I undress for men.

Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld: Disco King

Wow. Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld was apparently in high spirits at Ferragamo's stellar launch party for their newest fragrance Attimo at The Standard in New York. Sources say it was a red hot night at the latest hot spot, Le Bain, with DJ Kiss spinning. When Vladi wasn't busy trying out the round rooftop bed with hostess Chiara Clemente, he hung out underneath the disco ball downstairs lifting his girlfriend Giovanna Battaglia into the air, twirling her around, and, my personal favorite, "generally snogging." You know a party is in full swing when the general snogging starts... Many thanks to the lovely and talented Brent Murray for his kind permission to share his photographs from the evening with you.
